Six DZL Researchers Among the World’s Most Cited Scientists in 2024

Again this year, six Principal Investigators (PIs) from the German Center for Lung Research (DZL) are among the world’s most cited researchers. Clarivate Analytics has published the list of “Highly Cited Researchers,” honoring scientists whose publications rank among the most frequently cited in their respective disciplines worldwide. Clarivate Analytics publishes this list to honor researchers whose publications are among the most frequently cited in their field worldwide. This recognition is based on a comprehensive analysis of citation data from the Web of Science Core Collection™ and is conducted by experts at the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI™). A researcher is considered "highly cited" if their works have been frequently cited over a prolonged period, exerting a significant influence on the scientific community.

The DZL researchers recognized this year (in alphabetical order) are:

  • Prof. Dr. med. Uwe Haberkorn, Ruprecht-Karls-University Heidelberg
  • Prof. Dr. med Stefan Offermanns, Max Planck Institute Bad Nauheim
  • Prof. Dr. med. Martin Reck, LungenClinic Grosshansdorf
  • Prof. Dr. med. Stefan Schreiber, University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein – Kiel Campus
  • Prof. Dr. Dr. Fabian Theis, Technical University of Munich and Helmholtz Munich
  • Prof. Dr. Dr. Thomas Thum, Hannover Medical School

In total, 6,636 researchers from 59 countries were named to the “Highly Cited Researchers 2024” list by Clarivate. Germany ranks fourth globally with 332 researchers, behind the United States, China, and the United Kingdom.
