DZL Academy Mentoring: Bridging Generations in Lung Research

The DZL Academy has successfully concluded a dynamic series of mentoring workshops held from 19–21 November in Heidelberg, bringing together two generations of early-career researchers participating in the DZL Academy Mentoring Program “Careers in Respiratory Research.” The workshops were led by coach Dr. Christiane Kasack, who guided participants through the program’s activities.

The kick-off workshop marked the start of a new mentoring cycle, providing the incoming cohort with a strong foundation for the months ahead. Participants engaged in activities designed to strengthen mentor–mentee relationships, reflect on individual strengths, and set clear professional goals. The workshop also offered valuable opportunities for participants to connect with one another and establish supportive peer networks.

The close-out workshop, held in parallel for the outgoing cohort, created space for reflection on personal and professional growth, exploration of next career steps, and discussions on building resilience within scientific careers. Together, the two workshops illustrated the program’s continuity and the lasting impact of sustained mentorship.

The DZL Mentoring Program aims to empower young scientists pursuing careers in respiratory research by offering structured guidance, access to an extensive professional network, and the expertise of mentors from across and beyond the DZL community. The program continues to play a vital role in strengthening the next generation of lung researchers and fostering a collaborative, supportive research environment.
