The German Respiratory Society (DGP) has appointed five new honorary members as part of its congress. Among them are Prof. Dr. med. Werner Seeger, Chairman of the Board and Speaker of the German Center for Lung Research (DZL), and Prof. Dr. med. Claus Vogelmeier, Principal Investigator at the DZL.

Prof. Werner Seeger, former DGP President (2007–2009), has been Speaker of the DZL and Director of the UGMLC DZL site since 2011. His scientific achievements have been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including the International Balzan Prize and the Robert Grover Award from the American Thoracic Society.

Prof. Claus Vogelmeier, long-time Director of the Department of Internal Medicine, Pneumology, Intensive Care, and Sleep Medicine at the University Hospital Marburg, also served as DGP President and has been actively chairing the German Lung Foundation (DLS) for more than ten years. Since 2014, he has led the Science Committee of the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) and was awarded the Leopold-Lichtwitz Medal of the DGIM for his lifetime achievements.
