DPLD: Young Investigator Meeting, Munich

More than 45 young investigators of the DZL Disease Area Diffuse Parenchymal Lung Diseases (DPLD) met from 4th-5th December in Munich to present their work and to receive valuable feedback, as reported by the Coordinators of the Disease Area: Carola Voss (BREATH Hannover), Rory E. Morty (TLRC Heidelberg) and Andreas Günther (UGMLC Giessen). Many senior scientists of the Disease Area DPLD attended the meeting, giving the young investigators a perfect stage. Forty-eight abstracts had been submitted, all of which underwent external expert review by Prof. Jennifer Dickens (Cambridge, UK) and Prof. Raphael Borie (Paris, France).

Mentoring Programme: Joint Close-Out & Kick-Off Workshop, Heidelberg

With closing our latest DZL Academy Mentoring Workshop in Heidelberg, led by our coach Dr. Christiane Kasack we say thank you and goodbye to our wonderful 2024 Close-Out Class and a warm welcome to our new 2025 Mentoring Class.

It was a great and insightful 3 days, with lots of interaction, engagement, laughs and learning with an overlap between the two classes on the second day, which allowed for some great networking and exchange opportunities.

Many Thanks go out to Dr. Christiane Kasack, for once again putting together an amazing workshop with lots of time, dedication and very informative content. Thanks also to Doreen Franke for the organization and taking care of this wonderful program and taking the Mentees under her very competent and caring wings.

DZL Academy Symposium: Lung Science Meeting of the DZL Academy, DGP and GPP, Hannover

On November 17–18, 2025, the Lung Science Meeting took place in Hannover for the first time under the joint patronage of the DZL Academy, the German Respiratory Society (DGP), and the Society for Pediatric Pulmonology (GPP). Together with representatives of the DZL Academy, DZL scientists Prof. Dr. Christine Happle (Department of Pediatric Pulmonology, Allergology and Neonatology) and Prof. Dr. Jonas Schupp (Department of Pneumology and Infectious Diseases) at Hannover Medical School—who played a major role in shaping the scientific focus of the meeting—invited early-career researchers in German lung research to participate.

DZL DataLung School: Lung Science Training - "Introduction to Translational Lung Research – Fundamentals of Lung Biology and Physiology", Munich

The DZL DataLung School is a joint-venture between the DZL Academy and the DSWG AIDT. The DZL DataLung School held an annual lung science training course at the DZL CPC-M campus in Munich, which was attended by the current DataLung School cohort of trainees (all of whom are DZL Academy Fellows)

DZL Annual Meeting 2025, Heidelberg

The DZL held its Annual General Meeting in June 2025, hosted by the TLRC campus. As always, the activities of DZL Academy Fellows were a highlight of the meeting; and, in addition to the presentations by DZL Academy Fellows in short talks and poster presentations, several DZL Academy-specific events were also held. The Annual General Meeting was attended by a record 735 DZL members, most of whom cen be seen in the formal group photograph, below.
