A research team from Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) has achieved a major success: the team behind the medical software “Hemodynamix” has won first place in the Hessian start-up competition “Hessen Ideen.” The team also includes Prof. Dr. Khodr Tello, Principal Investigator at the German Center for Lung Research (DZL). The €10,000 prize was presented to the team by Hessian Minister of Science Timon Gremmels on September 24 at the Museum of Communication in Frankfurt.
“Hemodynamix” is designed to help physicians assess cardiac function and workload more easily and accurately. The software analyzes pressure curves that are already recorded as part of routine examinations in hospitals. Using specialized mathematical algorithms, it extracts additional diagnostic information from these existing data.
This could enable more precise assessments of cardiac function without requiring additional invasive procedures or expensive specialized catheters. The technology is based on 15 years of clinical research at JLU and combines medical expertise with a strong focus on practical application.
Prof. Dr. Khodr Tello is Professor of Right Heart Function and Pulmonary Hypertension. His clinical and scientific work focuses in particular on right heart function and the complex interactions between the heart and lungs. As a Principal Investigator at the German Center for Lung Research, he contributes this expertise to the research and development of innovative approaches to pulmonary vascular diseases. Most recently, he was also involved in research advancing the NO-sGC-cGMP signaling pathway (DZL News, September 24, 2026).
The “Hemodynamix” award highlights the potential to translate many years of clinical research into innovative applications for patient care.
The “Hessen Ideen” start-up competition is supported by the Hessian Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and the Arts to promote entrepreneurial ideas emerging from Hessian universities. This year, 32 teams from 14 universities applied for the competition.
