The European Respiratory Society (ERS) is one of the largest and most important societies in respiratory medicine and an important partner of the German Center for Lung Research (DZL). The society aims to promote science, education, and advocacy around the topic of lung health to alleviate suffering from disease and advance medical progress in the field of respiratory diseases worldwide.
The annual ERS International Congress will be held in 2021 from September 5-8 as an online congress. Respiratory experts worldwide will connect online to present and discuss the latest scientific and clinical advances in respiratory medicine.
Each year at the congress, the ERS presents several prestigious awards to recognize the achievements of leaders in the field of respiratory medicine. At this year's congress, DZL researcher Prof. Michael Kreuter, MD, Director of the Center for Interstitial and Rare Lung Diseases at the Thoraxklinik Heidelberg and Professor of Internal Medicine at Heidelberg University, will receive the "Teaching Award." Prof. Silke Meiners, MD, a scientist at Helmholtz Zentrum München Institute of Lung Biology and Disease (ILBD) and the Comprehensive Pneumology Center (CPC), will receive the "Fellow of the ERS Award," which honors a variety of different individuals, from promising young professionals to established high-ranking members.
