Claudia V. Benke, member of the DZL Academy and PhD candidate at the Translational Lung Research Center Heidelberg (TLRC) in the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at Heidelberg University Hospital, has been selected as a Scientific Ambassador of Euro-BioImaging for 2026. She is one of eleven researchers across Europe to receive this recognition.
The award acknowledges her work in high-resolution, translational lung imaging, combining synchrotron-based imaging, micro-CT, and multimodal approaches to study structural changes in lung diseases across different spatial scales. Benke stated: “As a Scientific Ambassador, I aim to strengthen the connections between imaging infrastructures and lung research, and to help early-career researchers access training opportunities and imaging platforms.”
Her research is supported by the DZL and benefits from international collaborations, including multiple synchrotron beam times at the Phase-Contrast CT Flagship Node in Trieste, Italy. Regarding her motivation, she added: “I want to make the opportunities offered by Euro-BioImaging visible and accessible to the broader research community.”
Euro-BioImaging is a European research infrastructure for biological and biomedical imaging, providing open access to state-of-the-art imaging technologies, training programs, and data services at 39 nodes across nearly 300 facilities in 18 countries, as well as at the EMBL. The Scientific Ambassadors program brings together researchers who help raise awareness of these resources and promote the use of advanced imaging infrastructures.
