On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of its Lung Information Service, Helmholtz Zentrum München invited to a digital round table. Together with renowned guests from politics, science and medicine, the research center discussed the guiding question "Knowledge for better health - How do we achieve even more together?". The recording of the event is available online.
Health information works. It helps healthy people stay healthy longer and sick people cope better with their illness. In view of the rising numbers of common diseases worldwide, such as diabetes, allergies and lung diseases, both are a central challenge of our time. According to Professor Matthias Tschöp, Scientific Director of Helmholtz Zentrum München, a constant and seamless link between communication to society and scientific expertise is therefore indispensable.
With the Lung Information Service and its other information services, Helmholtz Zentrum München has now been committed to strengthening health knowledge and health literacy for a decade. The DZL works closely with the Lung Information Service and supports its services.
Information services continuously expanded
Since the launch of the Lung Information Service in 2011, Helmholtz Zentrum München has continuously expanded its offerings of independent and verified health information to other topics and target groups. This was followed by the Allergy Information Service, the knowledge transfer program "Fit in Gesundheitsfragen" for schools together with the German Cancer Research Center, and the National Diabetes Information Portal diabinfo.de together with the German Center for Diabetes Research and the German Diabetes Center Düsseldorf.
Meanwhile, more than five million people a year use the services of Helmholtz Zentrum München on its various online portals. "In the coming years, we want to expand our offerings even more for young people and for people with poorer educational opportunities. In this way, we can contribute even more to strengthening health literacy in the population as early and sustainably as possible," says Ulrike Koller, Head of Health Information Services at Helmholtz Zentrum München. To this end, the Center is currently developing new strong partnerships at the federal, state and local levels.
