Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Kübler, scientist at the German Center for Lung Research (DZL) based at the partner institution Berlin Institute of Health (BIH)/Charité, has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Presidential Service Award by the American Physiological Society (APS).

The APS presents this award annually to recognize outstanding and long-standing volunteer service to the scientific community in the field of physiology. The recipient is selected by the current APS president – this year, Prof. Dr. Tim Musch – from a pool of qualified nominees.

Prof. Kübler is Director of the Institute of Physiology at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin and has been an active member of the APS since 1999. Throughout his membership, he has held numerous key positions, including Chair of the Section Advisory Committee and the Physiology Summit Leadership Committee. He is particularly active in the APS Respiration Section, where he served as Chair of the Scientific Programming Committee from 2008 to 2011 and as Section Chair from 2011 to 2014. He currently serves as Chair of the APS Publications Committee and is a member of the APS Advisory Council.

Beyond his commitment to APS, Prof. Kübler is a leading figure in physiological research in Germany. He is a former President of the German Society for Microcirculation and Vascular Biology and currently serves as Vice President of the German Physiological Society.

“APS relies heavily on the volunteer commitment of its members,” said APS President Tim Musch. “It is with great pleasure that we honor Prof. Wolfgang Kübler for his longstanding dedication, which has significantly shaped the Society’s work. This award is truly well-deserved.”

The DZL congratulates Prof. Kübler on this international recognition of his dedication and scientific achievements.
