News 2021-222 EN

DZL scientist Dr. Mareike Lehmann has been selected as a Science and Innovation Center (SIC) Rising Star of Research. She represents the Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology (RCMB) group in the American Thoracic Society (ATS) this year.

She was honored for her work, "Chronic Lung Diseases - Why Age matters," in which she investigates why the elderly develop more chronic lung diseases. As part of this year's award ceremony, Dr. Lehmann gave a presentation on this topic in a virtual session at this year's ATS conference.

Replication of age-related lung diseases

Dr. Mareike Lehmann leads the "Lung Aging" group at the LRR, the Institute for Lung Repair and Regeneration at the DZL Munich site (CPC-M/Helmholtz Zentrum München). Their research focuses on age-related lung diseases - and how these can be replicated as far as possible without animal experiments. Learn more here.

The American Thoracic Society (ATS) is one of the largest international research societies dedicated to basic clinical and translational lung research. It has more than 15,000 members worldwide. As "Rising Stars," the ATS recognizes researchers who have already attracted attention in their field and thus exemplify a successful future for translational research.
