Patients Ask – Experts Answer: Great Interest in the Online Patient Forum 2026

The annual Online Patient Forum on Lung Diseases, held as part of the congress of the German Respiratory Society (DGP), again attracted great interest this year. On March 17, 2026, around 380 people with lung diseases and their relatives took the opportunity to ask their questions directly to leading experts, many of which were answered live during the event.

The Online Patient Forum was organized by the Lung Information Service, the German Center for Lung Research (DZL), and the German Lung Day in cooperation with the DGP.

The Q&A session was moderated by Congress President Prof. Robert Bals and Prof. Christiane Lex, Deputy Section Speaker of the German Lung Day. They guided through the event and coordinated the numerous questions from the audience.

Questions were answered by experts from various fields of lung medicine:

• Prof. Bianca Schaub – Allergies and Asthma in Children and Adolescents
• Prof. Marek Lommatzsch – Asthma in Adults
• Prof. Klaus F. Rabe – COPD
• Prof. Martin Witzenrath – Respiratory Infections
• Prof. Jürgen Behr – Interstitial Lung Diseases, for example Pulmonary Fibrosis
• Prof. H. Ardeschir Ghofrani – Pulmonary Hypertension
• Prof. Wolfgang Schütte – Lung Cancer

The questions and answers discussed during the event will be prepared in anonymized form, organized by topic, and gradually published on the Lung Information Service website. The strong interest and the large number of submitted questions once again demonstrate how important reliable medical information and direct exchange with experts are for patients and their families.
