TLRC Researcher receives Christiane Herzog Research Award 2014.

On November 21, 2014, Dr. Mark Oliver Wielpütz from the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology of the Heidelberg University Hospital was awarded the Christiane Herzog Research Award 2014. Dr. Wielpütz is head of the Junior Research Group “Structural and Functional Imaging of the Airways” and Principal Investigator in the German Center for Lung Research (DZL) at the Translational Lung Research Center (TLRC) in Heidelberg. His research focuses on the improvement and development of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a radiation free method for the detection of changes in lung structure and response to therapy in early Cystic Fibrosis.

The Christiane Herzog Foundation aims to facilitate the lives of young patients with Cystic Fibrosis and supports  their families in the everyday battle against this disease. Another important aim is the promotion of scientific research at a high level. Annually since 2009, the foundation has honored young scientists with 50,000 Euro to support outstanding research projects in Cystic Fibrosis.

“I am very proud to receive this prize, but I consider it as recognition for 10 years of scientific work accomplished by a group of specialists in Thoracic Imaging under Prof. Hans-Ulrich Kauczor, the Medical Director of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the Heidelberg University Hospital”, says Dr. Wielpütz.
