DPLD Young Investigator Meeting: Outstanding Early Career Research Recognized

At the Young Investigator Meeting of the Disease Area DPLD (Diffuse Parenchymal Lung Diseases) organized by the German Center for Lung Research (DZL), researchers from all five DZL sites gathered in Hanover on December 2–3, 2024. The event focused on scientific exchange, networking, and the presentation of the latest research findings.

Out of 36 submitted abstracts, three outstanding works by young scientists were awarded:

• 1st Prize: Camille Barro (CPC-M)
• 2nd Prize (shared): Dr. Lara-Jasmin Schröder (BREATH) and Yasmin Shaalan (CPC-M)

The contributions were evaluated by an independent international jury consisting of Prof. Carlo Vancheri (University of Catania, Italy) and Prof. Nikhil Hirani (University of Edinburgh, UK).

The meeting was inaugurated with an inspiring keynote lecture by Prof. Killian Hurley (Royal College of Surgeons Ireland), who spoke about innovative lung fibrosis models based on patient-specific stem cells. In addition to the scientific presentations, the program included entertaining elements such as the Science Slam Karaoke, where researchers showcased their creativity and spontaneity.
