The DZL had a large presence at this year’s European Respiratory Society Meeting in Munich.
The 2014 European Respiratory Society (ERS) International Congress was held in Munich from September 6 – 10, 2014. The largest conference on respiratory health in the world, the ERS featured involvement by DZL members at many levels. This year’s congress chair was Prof. Dr. Oliver Eickelberg of the DZL Center, CPC-M. Dr. Eickelberg, along with Co-Chair Prof. Dr. Jürgen Behr, also a CPC-M DZL Principal Investigator, was responsible for shaping the scientific themes of the conference, as well as meeting planning and organization. In addition to numerous talks and poster presentations through the meeting by DZL scientists and clinicians, several DZL members received awards. Prof. Dr. Werner Seeger, DZL Chairman & Speaker and Director of the UGMLC Center, received the Congress Chair Award 2014 and was elected to the Fellowship of the ERS. Prof. Matthias Griese of CPC-M received the ERS Award for Rare Pulmonary Disease and Prof. Dr. Marius M. Hoper of BREATH received the ERS Award for Lifetime Achievement in Pulmonary Hypertension. Dr. Kristin Wesphalen and Dr. Dr. Melanie Königshoff, both of CPC-M, received the ERS Best Publication Maruizio Vignola Award for Innovation in Pneumology 2014 (shared prize) and the ERS Research Award on Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, respectively. Dr. Michael Seimetz, of UGMLC, received a Travel Grant for the best abstracts on COPD (one of 16 awarded). In addition, Dr. Felix Ringshausen of BREATH got an ERS Grant 2014 for the best abstract in the field of "Non-CF Bronchiektasen“ with the title „Predictors of lung function decline in stable non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis“ and was elected to be Group Secretary of the Respiratory Infections Group by the European Respiratory Society (ERS).
The Lung Information Service participated in the Healthy Lungs for Life Campaign which took place in the Munich Odeonsplatz from September 5 - 7, and the DZL had a booth during the ERS Congress in the World Village (pictured above). The DZL looks forward to the 2015 ERS International Congress which will take place next year in Amsterdam.
