DZL scientist Dr. Robert Prevedel has published a study that contributes to breakthrough improvements in a method of measuring cell stiffness. This method ranks as one of the biggest science stories of 2022, according to The Guardian.<\/em><\/p>\n

Together with his research group at the European Molecular Biology Lab (EMBL) in Heidelberg, DZL scientist Dr. Robert Prevedel is conducting research on an optical measurement method called Brillouin microscopy. This method is a powerful tool for observing changes in the mechanical properties of cells. It allows one to \"see\" the stiffness of an organic material without having to touch it. As a result, the cells are not damaged.<\/p>\n

The British newspaper The Guardian published an article on the 10 greatest science stories of 2022, which included the work of Dr. Robert Prevedel as a significant development. Brillouin microscopy can contribute to early disease diagnosis and ultimately improve our understanding of mechanical forces in biology. His laboratory is currently developing a technique for use in lung research.<\/p>\n
