Students from all DZL Centers participated in the 12th Annual Retreat of the Molecular Biology and Medicine of the Lung (MBML) international graduate program.
The 12th Annual retreat of the UGMLC “Molecular Biology and Medicine of the Lung” (MBML) International Graduate Program took place in Rauischholzhausen, Germany from August 4 – 6, 2014. During a packed three days, graduate students were treated to presentations from international lung experts, as well as to lectures given by two Nobel Laureates, Professor Robert Huber of the Max Planck Institute for Biochemistry in Munich and Professor Harald zur Hausen of the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg. Also present was His Eminence Cardinal Wim Eijk, the Archbishop of Utrecht, who gave a thought provoking talk on “Euthanasia and Medical Responsibilities Concerning the End of Life”. Student presentations and posters rounded out the program, which also included a popular “Meet the Professor” session.
The Annual Retreat was organized by Program Director Dr. Rory E. Morty, Deputy Program Director Dr. Florian Veit, Program Tutor, Dr. Elie El Agha, and Program Chairman Professor Werner Seeger, all of the UGMLC. In addition to MBML students, the roster included students from every DZL Center, and visiting students from the United States and The Netherlands. In total 128 students, faculty, and invited guests took part in this exciting event.
